Portraits, mise-en-scène, still-lifes from history, mythology, literature: a subject in all periods of art history and especially now again, just think of Cindy Sherman, Irene Andessner or Hendrik Kerstens. The photo-artist Karin Nedela has been working intensively in this area and has presented her work in many exhibitions.
How can I bring my ideas to life with relatively simple means? How can I even find ideas? Where are the borders to kitsch and tawdriness? Or maybe I want to deliberately cross them?
In this workshop the participants, together with Karin Nedela, will work on ideas for subjects and their execution. First there will a look at art and costume history and a discussion of photographers who interpret and work on staging in different ways. Then it is off to work: own ideas for pictures are developed and executed.
The beautifully located, historic Schloss Homburg will inspire in its very own way. As time and work possibilities are limited, simple props will be used: fabrics, packaging and foils, natural materials.
This is no ‚photography course’ in the usual sense. Basics of photography are assumed. Alternatively, drawing is a possibility. This is all about finding ideas and motifs, picture design and, most of all, the joy of staging a vision.
The focus will be on the human portrait; if desired, other ideas can, of course, be discussed. Bring a camera, preferably digital, as well as equipment such as tripod and/or sketch-pad and pencils. Materials for staging, for example, fabrics, foils, costume jewelry, as arranged.
